Verge: Featuring 13 Virtual Feast Artists Opens November 6,2014

Verge Center for the Arts is pleased to present Many Happy Returns: A 35 year Retrospective of Short Center North

Over 200 pieces by artists with developmental disabilities will be on display including work by the Center’s first client artist Liz Markham. Going all the way back to 1978, this exhibition will take the viewing public through a chronological survey of more than three decades of work in all genres and mediums including painting, sculpture, animation, assemblage, and fiber arts. This will be the first time an exhibition of this size or scope has been undertaken for the Center. In addition to the retrospective Verge will be hosting a Pop-Up Shop in our classroom and community exhibition space offering works for sale in time for the holiday season.

Save the date! The biggest retrospective of 35 years of Short Center North Art will be held at the new Verge Center for the Arts; a huge gala opening reception will be on second Saturday, Novemeber 8th. The show will run until the end of 2014. In conjunction with the exhibition, several new artists will be uploaded to Virtual Feast.

Virtual Feast featured in Raw Vision 2014

Virtual Feast, DDSO’s* arts website, has again been honored with a write-up. The Winter 2014 edition of Raw Vision, the worlds foremost publication dedicated to Outsider/Folk Art, features the Virtual Feast DDSO artists in memoriam exhibition, and also includes a photo of Virtual Feast artist Greg Tumbusch’s “3 Graces”.

Virtual Feast PromoPartially funded by The Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, Virtual Feast (www.ddsoarts.org, www.virtualfeast.org) is an ongoing project which features an in-depth look at prominent Short Center artists and DDSO Special Project artists with developmental disabilities. The website includes artwork portfolios, written artists’ biographies and video documentaries. The website also has integrated disability friendly features and a comment board.

A new set of artists will be uploaded in the spring of 2014, and another memorial show will be featured in the fall. For more information email Stephanie Skalisky at outreach@ddso.org.

Announcing New Artists!

DDSO Arts is proud to announce the addition of 5 new artists, video biographies and portfolios to the Virtual Feast online collection of DDSO Short Center artists.

We have also made some welcome changes to the Virtual Feast website! You can now comment on artists pages and share their pages via Facebook, Twitter and G+. We encourage an open conversation about what you find here and welcome your comments, discussion and feedback!

This addition to the Virtual Feast project has been a months long collaboration among many individuals. We are very lucky to work with such talented artists. Please enjoy, comment and share!
